Their fast encrusting growth and hardy nature make them ideal for creating colourful coral gardens and accent areas throughout the tank.
CARE LEVEL
Easy
Ideal for beginners and experienced reef keepers alike in stable reef systems.
WATER REQUIREMENTS & GENERAL CARE
• Temperature: 24–27 °C
• Salinity: 1.024–1.026 (32–35 ppt)
• pH: 8.1–8.4
• Alkalinity: 8–9 dKH
• Calcium: 380–450 ppm
• Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
Stable water chemistry supports healthy polyp extension, rapid growth, and vibrant coloration.
LIGHTING
• Low–Moderate
• PAR Range: 50–150 PAR
Zoanthids adapt well to a wide range of lighting conditions. Lower PAR enhances darker pigments, while moderate lighting encourages brighter colours. Gradual acclimation is recommended.
PLACEMENT
• Bottom / Mid rockwork
Can be placed on rockwork, frag plugs, or isolated islands. Positioning on separate rocks helps control spreading.
FLOW
• Low–Moderate
Provide gentle to moderate, indirect flow to keep debris off the polyps while allowing full extension.
FEEDING
• Photosynthetic: Feeding optional
Recommended feeding schedule:
• Occasional
Accepted foods:
• Fine powdered coral foods
• Reef roids
• Microplankton blends
• Liquid coral foods or amino acids
Supplemental feeding may encourage faster growth and increased polyp size.
COMPATIBILITY & BEHAVIOUR
• Temperament: Peaceful
• No sweeper tentacles
• Can spread and overgrow nearby rockwork
• Best kept away from slow‑growing or delicate corals
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
• Family: Zoanthidae
• Origin: Indo-Pacific & Caribbean (species dependent)
